The Antarctic Continent is on the
most southern zone of the planet, beyond the 60° south latitude. It has
approximately 12.400.000 km2 of surface, plus the ice barriers soldered to its
coasts, reach the 14.000.000 km2. A 98% of the Continent surface is covered with
ice, that is why it has an altitude average of 2 thousand meters which makes it
the most elevated Continent. The ice thick varies between 2.000 and 2.500 meters
average, reaching the 4.000 meters on punctual areas due to the accumulation
coming from ice-age and from the unceasing growing of the ice cape because of
the snowstorms, the 90° of the terrestrial ice is situated there.
